thursdaythings.

Just wrote this whole post, and then accidentally deleted it. That's wonderful. Clearly I'm still getting the hang of this thing, but COME ON. Ok, round two. The week is flying by, my nails are chipped, and I can't find the time to pay my credit card bill, but I'd say that my time has been well spent. Bills shmills anyway, right? Having some out of town guests for two nights lead to a bit of bar hopping and boozy dinner-ing, followed by weekday hangovers (the kind that lingers, and haunts you until dinner time, subtle enough that you've convinced yourself you're not actually hungover, yet you find yourself eating every hour on the hour and thinking explicitly about how great a nap would be. Oh 30, you got me again!). Worth it though, for good times with good people. Before the weekend hits us here are some things...

thing 1: This JAM. Somethin' slow that still gets ya real good.

thing 2: The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. [ http://shop.nordstrom.com/?origin=tab-logo ] You've either heard about this 1 million times, or you have no idea what I'm talking about. Well it's over on Sunday, so get it while it's hot! I just keep adding things to my shopping cart, hoping that some kind soul stumbles upon my lap top, takes pity on me, and buys them for me. Here are a couple of favorites that you might want to make the move on before Fall arrives...

[ men's red wing boots $159.90, originally $260 ]

[ women's hunter 'tall moto' rainboots $139.90, originally $215 ]

thing 3: Timbre. My new favorite app. I thought that I had a normal amount of apps, but then I see other peoples phones and realize that I am seriously slacking. I'm confident that this one is worthy of joining my elite crew of little guys, and highly recommend it. How it works - you enter a location, Timbre creates a list, sorted by day, of all live music playing in the area. By clicking on an artist you can hear a music sample, as well as be linked to purchase tickets. An awesome tool to find new tunes in your hood, and maybe come across some music that would have otherwise flew under the radar. "Nothing beats live music". It's free, don't worry. I/my mom don't pay for apps. Get on it!

Hope you like my things. I like you. Have a good day.

staying in and cleaning is the new going out.

Friday night, just got paid, out of work early, boyfriends out of town ... you see where this is going right? You better believe I got into some weird 'ish tonight. Went real hard on a bottle ........ of WINDEX. HA! MY. APARTMENT. IS. SPARKLING. I stayed in and cleaned, duh. I dare you to find a drawer, closet, or cabinet that isn't organized to a degree of alarming efficiency in this place. There are few things that bring me as much joy as organizing and rearranging - it's sick, I have a sickness.  With a Jersey Shore marathon as my backdrop, and a frozen burrito on call for dinner, the stage was set.

Tonight consisted of a variety of projects: First, re-organizing all gift wrap, ribbon, greeting cards, etc., really living on the edge over here. I stock up on this stuff along the way, and it comes in super handy to have a stash for last minute gifts, I highly recommend grabbing these goods when you see them on clearance, and doing a little stock piling for the future. When it's overflowing out of a drawer it's more appealing to hit up Target for fresh goods rather then digging thru the shit-storm of tissue paper, so this was needed. I used a few shoe boxes, and cardboard boxes from IKEA to get things into place. Here's the final result...

Feeling a true high from that project, my caffeine fueled Friday night of fun continued. Just by the slim chance that any males are still reading this post, a little tip for you fellas, if you want a clean apartment, go away for a few days. The urge to purge and cleanse is overwhelming once male energy is out of the building.

Next up, I wanted to deal with this chair that's been a bit of an eye sore in the living room. Obviously I don't want to spend money on a slip cover (how does that become a priority when I've got shopping carts overflowing on like, 8 different websites? Girl needs some new shoes.) When I'm getting my DIY on I try to spend minimal amounts of moola, so this project called for an old bedsheet, and a handful of safety pins. I lucked out with a cute ruffle that added some pizazz to my creation, but any sheet would do. I wanted to turn the maroon monster into something crisper that would add a bit of a pop -- it's obviously not a permanent solution, but after some strategic folding and tucking, I'm happy with the end result. We'll see if it stays put once a human actually sits there, but for now it looks cute.

Ok, I know you're all overwhelmed with jealousy of how I spent my night - so let me take that feeling over the edge with one final OCD situation... I finally bit the bullet and went thru all of my jewelry, untangling necklaces, and matching up all of my earrings. I found great drawer organizers at Marshall's, and used them to give everything its own space. By separating things into individual compartments I can finally see what I'm working with, and will hopefully be more inclined to actually wear some of this crap. Then I had a moment of genius, I'll patent this eventually, so don't get any ideas - I used a thick piece of cardboard wrapped in black duct tape as a board to store all of my stud earrings. It fits easily in the drawer, and finally makes all of them visible and easy to get to. Go ahead, make one of your own, thank me later.

So that's that. For sure a Friday night that I'll always remember. Maybe you'll be inspired to do some re-organizing of your own this weekend - or maybe you won't, because this sounds like a miserable way to spend your free time. Am I alone on this one? Are there any other freaks out there who genuinely enjoy this? Either way, have a fab weekend - I'll be doing my first ever Soul Cycle class tomorrow, so if I don't die of exhaustion I'll catch you back here soon...

OH, I almost forgot - if you're looking for a little ring/jewelry dish for your bedside table or wherever, these little doodies are only $3 at Crate and Barrel - apparently intended for cupcakes ('cupcake pedestal', WTF?), it's a perfect little guy to hold your day to day delicate jewels... or one single cupcake that you want to put on display. I don't get it. Here ya go... http://www.crateandbarrel.com/orange-cupcake-pedestal/s669480

K, byeeee!
